An electric bus traveled more than 1,000 miles on a single charge, setting a record for electric vehicles.
A 40-foot bus from Proterra drove 1,102.2 miles on a test track in Indiana. The previous record was 1,013,75 miles, which was set by a light-duty electric vehicle substantially lighter than the bus.
“Early electric bus adopters like our first customer, Foothill Transit (CA), have paved the way for future heavy-duty applications, like motor coaches and commercial trucks,” said Proterra CEO Ryan Popple in a statement. “As we see incumbents and more companies enter the heavy-duty EV market, it has become very apparent that the future is all-electric, and the sun is setting on combustion engine technology.”
