Union Station (DC) through fisheye lense

Union Station advertising screen displayed porn videos

One of the digital advertising screens in Union Station in Washington, D.C., started playing pornographic videos on Monday evening.

The incident lasted about three minutes before someone managed to turn off the screen. The videos were apparently streamed from the website PornHub.

“I was pretty speechless. I couldn’t believe this was happening in public and especially during rush hour,” one woman told The Washington Post. “I mean, it was really explicit porn being shown on this huge screen and no one could turn it off.”

The touchscreen boards normally show a rotating display of advertisements, public service announcements, and a listing of station businesses. The display boards can be turned on and off manually, but the content is streamed automatically.

Beverley Swaim-Staley, president and CEO of the Union Station Redevelopment Corportation, said she is requesting information from the property manager. “We’ve asked them to certainly investigate the incident to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” she said. The screens will remain off until the issue has been addressed.  Link to full story in The Washington Post.
