The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (TX) is going app-happy with the launch of a new safety application and a beta test for a mobile ticketing app.
First, the agency launched MPD Connect, a mobile application that enables passengers to contact the METRO Police Department to report any security or safety concerns on the system.
“Safety is METRO’s top priority for passengers and employees,” said MPD Chief Vera Bumpers in a statement. “This new tool provides another option for riders who see suspicious activity or other unexpected incidents on the transit system, but we remind everyone to dial 911 in a real emergency.”
Customers using the app can submit a report directly to METRO Police by filling out a short form or they can chat live via text messaging during staffed hours.
METRO’s IT department worked with METRO Police to develop the free app, which is available for iOS and Android platforms.
METRO is also seeking beta testers for its mobile ticketing app. Interested testers can apply here.
