Broward County Transit (FL) will introduce a series of technology improvements to support bus location information. A computer-aided dispatch and automatic-vehicle-locator system will allow BCT to provide real-time information for every bus and each one of the county’s 4,500 bus stops.
Real-time location information will be available on computers, web-enabled smart phones, or 100 signs that BCT will install at the county’s busiest bus stops. Information will also be available via mobile application, text, or phone call.
County commissioners agreed to negotiate with Integrated Systems Research Corporation for an $11.5 million system. Clever Devices Ltd. filed an unsuccessful protest.
The technology will update the county’s existing system, which is nearly 20 years old. A $2 million federal stimulus grant will help pay for the improvements.
