Transit Windsor (ON) will move forward with plans to develop an online trip planner that will use existing data about bus routes and schedules. The board of directors agreed to purchase new software that would enable the city to map bus routes and stops more efficiently, and a basic trip planner could be available in three months. The board also asked for more information about the costs of developing a more sophisticated application that incorporates real-time information. “We’ve asked for a report that will give us exact costing on capital and operating,” city councillor Al Maghnieh told CBC News. “We’ll hopefully take that to capital budget at the City of Windsor. If it’s successful, we’ll see our transit system moving into the digital age — moving into the technological age — where we’ll have real-time applications telling you where the bus is on the map.” Recently a university student developed a basic iPhone app for Transit Windsor. Does anyone know what trip planner software Transit Windsor selected? Was it OpenTripPlanner, by any chance?
