Following up on last month’s announcement that the Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (PA) would add real-time bus information, The Morning Call offered some additional details. LANTA used federal stimulus funds to equip its 80 buses with GPS units, and the customer information system is expected to go live within a few months. Passengers will be able to access real-time bus location information with a web-enabled smart phone or standard cell phone (via automated voice system). LANTA’s new tech tools allow dispatchers to monitor all routes in the two-county system from headquarters in Allentown — “Now we can be everyplace,” said executive director Armando Greco — and an automated passenger counting system will provide support for service planning.
