India adds real-time tracking to trains

After a successful trial, Indian Railways plans introduce GPS technology on its trains to enhance customer information and improve safety. LCD screens installed inside train coaches will provide information about speed, current location, upcoming stations, and outside temperature. In addition, real-time location information would be displayed at stations. The Satellite Imaging for Rail Navigation project, known as Simran, is also expected to reduce accidents at rail crossings.
