Keeping an eye on transit

After a series of robberies at a suburban Red Line station, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority set up a surveillance trailer in the parking lot. The Boston Globe reports:

While the 24-foot-high camera trailer, with its stilt-like metal frame, may look like something from “Star Wars,’’ Quincy Police Chief Paul Keenan said it’s a sign of how serious the city and MBTA police are taking this year’s nine robberies of people walking home from the station in the dark.

The trailer allows live monitoring as well as high-resolution 360-degree video camera coverage. So far, the camera has not provided any leads, but only one robbery has been reported in the area (although beyond camera range) since surveillance started. Link to full story in The Boston Globe.
