Troubles for Seattle transit tunnel

by Susan on August 15, 2010

Technical glitches closed the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel (WA) on Thursday, affecting thousands of bus and rail commuters during the evening peak. According to the Seattle Times, a computer malfunction disrupted the tunnel’s emergency telephones, forcing officials to close the transitway to comply with public safety regulations. In addition to working with the local news media, area transit agencies notified commuters via Twitter updates, online rider alerts, and announcements from transit personnel. The tunnel reopened on Friday, and engineers are working to determine the cause of the system failure. Link to full story in Seattle Times.
