Victoria official criticized for sharing commuter tweets

A senior communications official at the Victoria Department of Transport has come under fire for tweeting on the job. But it’s not what you think. Michael Hopkins, executive director for communications and policy, collects commuter tweets and shares these “Transport Tweets of the Week” with senior officials in the department.  Examples from a “myki supplement” include:

  • I finally got hold of my myki card. Hilarity/chaos/violence may ensue
  • Creepy guy on train eyeing my phone made me forget to touch off my Myki :(
  • I’ve been using myki for the past month, and it hasn’t been as bad as you might think

Critics claim that transportation officials are wasting time by tracking tweets rather than fixing the system. Link to full story in the Herald Sun.
