Octopus exec resigns over data breach

Prudence Chan, CEO of Octopus Holdings, has resigned after admitting that the smart card payment company sold private customer data to six companies. According to Hong Kong’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Octopus required customers to provide detailed personal information when signing up for its rewards program, including passport number and birth certificate number. The company makes the Octopus smart card, which used on Hong Kong’s MTR transit system. Link to full story in IT News.
