San Francisco smart card chaos

by Susan on August 5, 2010

Some San Francisco (CA) Bay Area commuters had an unwelcome surprise this week when they discovered that their August transit passes were not loaded onto their Clipper smart cards. The problem mostly affected riders who received their passes through Wage Works, a company that manages employee benefits. Metropolitan Transportation Commission spokesman John Goodwin said the problem was a software glitch that came to light on Monday, the first commuting day of the month, and that customers who paid their fares out of pocket will get reimbursed. An August 4 update on the Clipper Facebook page said that card balances should be restored “today, tomorrow or Friday at the latest.” Link to full story in SF Appeal.
