Suspended TriMet driver plans to drop blog

Dan Christensen, the TriMet (OR) bus driver who was suspended after a controversial blog post about a close encounter with a bicycle rider, plans to retire his TriMet Confidential blog. “Writing this blog has made bus driving make sense to me and in some ways it has made the world make sense to me,” he wrote this week, adding that TriMet did not pressure him to drop the blog. “I believe that everything has its time, a time of birth, growth and an ending. I believe that my bus blog is at an end.” He told Joseph Rose, columnist at The Oregonian, that he expects to be behind the wheel of his bus in a few days. “What it comes down to,” he told Rose, “is I can be a bus driver who blogs or a blogger who drives a bus…I want to be a bus driver.” And while Christensen is dropping his blog, he’s keeping his Twitter account and his 18,000 followers. Update: The Oregonian reported on July 29 that Christensen has returned to work but still faces disciplinary action.
