With a goal of reducing road deaths by half over the next decade, the European Commission wants to install event data recorders in commercial vehicles. Adding so-called black boxes in buses, taxis, and trucks would help safety officials investigate accidents. Other components of the Commission’s Road Safety Action Plan include installing electronic stability controls on cars as well as automatic braking systems for buses and trucks.
