Just when you thought it was safe to jump into social networking, Network World published a list of 10 threats and vulnerabilities. These include worms, Trojans, botnets, and malware. But it’s not just unwanted visitors that can create havoc; over-sharing by employees can create problems as well:
Social networks are all about sharing. Unfortunately, many users share a bit too much about the organization — projects, products, financials, organizational changes, scandals, or other sensitive information…The resulting issues include the embarrassing, the damaging and the legal.
The common thread is trust. People tend to trust links and pictures that seemingly come from friends and — like in the early days of email — they click without thinking. So until people get burned a few more times, the story concludes, the cyber-threats will continue. Link to full story in Network World.
