A virtual second life for Edmonton

Edmonton (AB) is going virtual. The city is replicating itself — geography, terrain, and major landmarks — on the Second Life platform. Second Life is a three-dimensional virtual application that allows participants to interact with one another via user-created avatars and to build virtual objects with an integrated modeling tool. CIO Chris Moore believes that the platform can foster public involvement and encourage tourism and economic development. Virtual Edmonton, which cost $25,000 to develop, is expected to launch in August.  Link to full story in Government Technology.
