Want to know about the latest trends in personal technology? Check out the lost-and-found department at New York’s Grand Central Terminal. CNET blogger Daniel Terdiman writes:
That’s because in a train terminal that services 700,000 people a day, and more than 2,000 lost items a month, those with the latest cell phones, laptops, or other tech gear are bound to lose them while at Grand Central.
“We start seeing technology as soon as it hits the streets,” lost-and-found clerk Chris Stoll told Terdiman, adding that three iPhones and three iPads came in the day before. The good news for the newly disconnected is that Grand Central has an 80% success rate in reuniting owners with their possessions. There is no high-tech system at work here — just old-fashioned detective work: “The secret sauce of the department’s success rate,” Terdiman writes, “is the innovative cataloging system it uses and the doggedness with which the clerks try to track down items’ owners.” Link to full story in CNET News.
