Foothill Transit to test electric vehicle

by Susan on July 12, 2010

Foothill Transit (CA) is running a new electric bus on a trial basis and plans to put the route in service in September. The vehicles cost $1.2 million each, double the price of a conventional diesel bus, but the operating costs are lower and the environmental benefits are greater. The bus can drive 30 miles before recharging, which takes only 10 minutes. The agency used federal stimulus funding to purchase three electric buses and to build a recharging station in Pomona.
