The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon is revisiting its policy on employee blogs after receiving several complaints about a bus operator who posted videos online. The employee, who writes Rantings of a TriMet Bus Driver, seemingly landed in hot water with Portland’s bicycle community after a back-and-forth better left to local bloggers to explain. At issue are some videos he posted online, apparently shot while he was driving the bus. While not technically in violation of distracted-driving laws — the operator was not holding the camera himself — the videos raised questions (and eyebrows). In response, TriMet expects to tighten its rules on employees who blog and to prohibit operators from shooting videos while driving, no matter who holds the camera.
