The Intelligent Transportation Society of America presented a Smart Solution Spotlight award to the Utah Transit Authority‘s MAX Bus Rapid Transit. The Salt Lake City service uses transit signal priority to give vehicles the right-of-way at intersections, along with object detection, collision avoidance systems, and off-board contactless fare collection. ”The ITS components of the MAX service are key to the success of the system,” said UTA CEO John Inglish in a statement. “Customers have recognized the value of the system improvements.” Link to ITS America press release.
