Carnegie Mellon University and Bombardier are joining forces to open a $2.2 million multidisciplinary research center this fall. The Pennsylvania Smart Infrastructure Incubator will focus on critical technology areas to improve transit operations and civil infrastructure. “Tomorrow’s infrastructure will blend traditional concrete-and-steel physical infrastructure systems with cyber-infrastructure systems such as computers, networks and sensors in ways that are just emerging,” said Matthew Sanfilippo, executive director of the new center.  “Pennsylvania has a wealth of companies, universities and institutions that are inventing many of these emerging technologies that will build or re-build the world’s infrastructure.” The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is contributing to project funding, along with industry partners.  Link to CMU press release.
