Transit properties continue to acquire clean buses thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Here’s a roundup:
- The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (LA) will start rolling out nearly 50 new biodiesel coaches by the end of June. “Many of the buses we’re using now are antiquated, out-of-date and should have been retired by now,” said Justin Augustine of Veolia Transportation, which manages the RTA. - Also in Louisiana, Jefferson Transit introduced 18 new biodiesel buses this month to support its post-Katrina rebuilding activities. Link to full story in The Times-Picayune.
- Seattle’s King County Metro (WA) will add 24 hybrid electric vehicles to its paratransit fleet.The vehicles are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30%. Link to full story in Metro Magazine.
