The connected train comes of age

A story in MuniWireless summarizes the status of passenger wireless communications on public transportation from Amtrak to Indian Railways. Looking for ways to improve the passenger experience, train operators seeking on-train and in-station broadband systems in record numbers this year. Amtrak is a success story in the U.S. (some 89% of surveyed passengers said that WiFi access influenced their decision to ride the Acela), while an Indian Railways survey showed that 57% of respondents would use laptops on long-distance trains if WiFi were available.
