Solar panels help NYC Transit go greener

by Susan on June 7, 2010

A 48-panel solar thermal array provides MTA New York City Transit’s Coney Island Maintenance Facility with a clean energy source at an annual savings of $94,000. The $550,000 installation was funded by the New York Power Authority and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. “The MTA and its agencies are working hard to make sure that every dollar we receive is used wisely, and that applies to our energy bill as well,” said NYC Transit president Thomas F. Prendergast in a statement. “I want to thank the New York Power Authority and NYSERDA for helping MTA New York City Transit save money and go even greener.” Link to MTA press release.
