The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is using a simulator — complete with animated videos and tilt-and-shake effects — to train its PATH rail operators. “You can subject operators to real scenarios that you can’t do in real time,” said Darren Zebrowski, PATH operations examiner. “You can subject them to snow and you can subject them to rain.” The simulator is part of a $3.3 billion system modernization that includes replacing the 340-car fleet.
