Portland’s TriMet (OR) has teamed up with junaio to offer an augmented reality application for iPhone users. Customers can look through the phone’s viewfinder to see information overlays showing near-by station locations, bus routes, and real-time arrival times. “Augmented reality intuitively lays out transit information for our riders” says IT manager Bibiana McHugh. “We are thrilled to have the augmented reality channel as another means of helping our riders get to their destinations.” The free app is available through the iTunes store; an Android version is in the works. TriMet follows San Francisco’s BART in introducing augmented reality to its riders. Link to full story in The Oregonian.
