Germany’s Stadtwerke Augsburg Verkehrs GmbH, the Augsburg Transport Authority,  will pilot a catenary-free tram in cooperation with Bombardier Transportation. Bombardier’s PRIMOVE technology uses cable buried beneath the track to produce a magnetic field. “Our expectation for the PRIMOVE pilot project is to gain further insights into new developments in energy management and energy savings in tramway operations,” said Norbert Walter, managing director of Stadtwerke Augsburg, in a press release. “We will also cooperate with the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences for this. Public transport stands to benefit from this innovative project in the field of electric mobility.” Link to press release.
