San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (CA) will introduce solar panels in the parking lot for its Lafayette station. The 200 carports, or covered parking spaces with solar panels on the roof, will be able to power the station during the day. “It’s a win for the environment, it’s a win for the taxpayers in lowering our power costs, it’s a win for BART’s budget and it’s a win for 200 lucky parkers who will have carports,” said board member Gail Murray. Construction is expected to begin in 2011, pending environmental and technical reviews. Link to full story in Contra Costa Times.
