TTC expands next-vehicle arrival system

by Susan on April 30, 2010

Unveiling a solar-powered sign at a streetcar platform, the Toronto Transit Commission (ON) launched the latest phase of its next-vehicle arrival system. Information will appear on LCD monitors or LED screens at subway stations and selected bus/streetcar stops. TTC has already installed GPS units in its streetcar fleet and expects to finish retrofitting its buses early in 2011. TTC launched the pilot next-vehicle system in 2008, focusing on streetcar service, and will complete the bus roll-out next year. In addition to accessing the information via station/stop signage, TTC customers will be able to get vehicle-arrival information by SMS text-messaging technology for all 800 streetcar stops later this year and all bus stops in early 2011.
