Pittsburgh’s maglev project inches forward

After 10 years of planning, a proposed magnetic levitation train serving Pittsburgh (PA) still faces challenges, but backers say it is in better shape than competing projects. “We’re still in line, still in the best position and organization in the country,” said Fred Gurney, president of Maglev Inc., which is developing the project. “It’s just been a long, torturous process.” The project still needs approval from the Federal Railroad Administration, and Pennsylvania’s funding woes are jeopardizing the local match. Link to full story in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
