Does GPS distract Disney drivers?

Instead of operating along fixed alignments, buses at Walt Disney World in Orlando (FL) use GPS data to adjust routes in real-time to accommodate passenger demand. Critics claim that the program, called Magic in Motion, distracts drivers and compromises safety. Driver concerns include the requirement to enter the route code manually into the on-board computer and the constantly changing landscape. “I just think when you have a dedicated route, you have more familiarization,” a former bus driver told the Orlando Sentinel. “You’re familiar with the turns and the little dips in the road.” Disney officials said that drivers have ample time to enter the route codes and that more efficient scheduling has reduced passenger wait times. In addition, officials said, features like automated stop announcements make it easier for drivers to concentrate on driving. Link to full story in Orlando Sentinel.
