TriMet wants to get rid of some dirty words — like greenhouse gas and congestion — and launched a contest to raise public awareness. The Portland (OR) agency will highlight one word a week for five successive Mondays on its Twitter page; people will have a day to submit a haiku that incorporates the word. Each of five winners will receive a one-month transit pass. Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry consisting of 17 syllables in phrases of five, seven, and five syllables, respectively.
