Lighten up: Using social media make to transit fun

On some days the transit updates on Twitter and Facebook can seem like an unending list of delays and disruptions. To lighten things up, a few agencies are using social media to entertain their customers — and maybe attract some new ones in the process. In greater Vancouver (BC),  TransLink offers Carbon Chaos, a free iPhone app described as an “engaging action puzzle game,” that challenges users to move people around a city by bus, bike, or car while minimizing emissions. And, following the example of Bay Area Rapid  Transit (CA), TransLink became the first Canadian transit agency to partner with the location-based social networking site Foursquare.
