The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (DC) is introducing 26 motorized vehicles to help safety personnel respond more quickly to emergencies. The mobile emergency response vehicles are portable, so personnel can carry them to the scene and assemble them on site, and the battery-powered MERVs are designed to travel on Metrorail tracks after power to the third rail has been turned off. An $860,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is funding the MERV purchase. Link to full story in The Washington Post.
