RailCorp’s new software delays payments to vendors

Australia’s RailCorp is paying contractors about three months late because of problems with a new computer system intended to improve transparency in the procurement process. The New South Wales agency introduced the software after an independent commission “uncovered serious irregularities in the way it hired private contractors,” according to The Sydney Morning Herald. A RailCorp spokesman indicated that about 7,000 invoices are still outstanding, but 120,000 have been paid. “The system has completely transformed the way we source, procure and process invoices from suppliers,” he said. “We are committed to implementing a better and more transparent payment system to guard against potential abuse and to protect public money.” Link to full story in The Sydney Morning Herald.
