The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NY) wants to bring Wi-Fi to its commuter rail passengers and is requesting proposals on designing, implementing, and financing wireless service for Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road. Financing strategies will likely be key; the agency hopes to leverage private-sector funding for the project. “Providing our railroad customers with fast, reliable internet service is an example of our commitment to improve the customer’s experience within our available resources,” said chairman and CEO Jay H. Walder. “In fact, this initiative will not cost the MTA a dime.” Link to MTA press release.
