About two-thirds of state DOTs are using social media, according to a report from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. While all the states surveyed still rely on traditional media, especially press releases, to get their message out, they use applications like Facebook and Twitter for targeted communications. Arizona uses its Facebook page to reach young drivers (age 15-35), while another DOT focuses on “transportation geeks.” Download AASHTO report (pdf).
