On the second day of hearings before the National Transportation Safety Board, a parts manufacturer testified that mixing different types of signal equipment might have contributed to Metrorail’s fatal accident last June. According to a safety engineer from Alstom Signaling, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority‘s decision to combine signal components from different manufacturers contributed to the failure of the train detection system.Link to full story in The Washington Post.
