NTSB opens hearing on Metrorail automated controls, oversight

The National Transportation Safety Board opened a three-day hearing into last June’s fatal Metrorail crash. Investigators began by quizzing Peter Benjamin, chairman of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (DC), about communications between the board, general manager John Catoe, and oversight agencies. Formal findings are months away, but the investigation to date has focused on the failure of Metro’s automatic train-control system. Link to full story in The Washington Post.
