Security cameras debut on New York City subway

The New York  Metropolitan Transportation Authority rolled out four subway cars equipped with video surveillance equipment today, part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to improve safety and security. “Video camera systems have clearly been shown to help deter criminal activity on transit vehicles,” said New York City Transit president Thomas F. Prendergast in a press release. After a year-long evaluation, MTA will decide whether to deploy cameras throughout the subway system. Link to full story in the New York Post.
