When a Metrorail Red Line train left the station on the wrong track last week, Metro’s safety system derailed the train automatically. “It intentionally derailed the train for safety purposes to stop it from running a red light and prevented a collision,” an official from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (DC) told The Washington Post.
