The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority introduced real-time arrival information on its Fitchburg commuter rail line today. A countdown clock will provide arrival information for passengers waiting on the platform, and automated station announcements will be available on the trains. In addition, the MBTA unveiled real-time arrival information via AM radio at one of the stations along the line; now passengers can wait in their cars until the train arrives. The authority is deploying the message signs and radio transmissions throughout its commuter rail system over the next few months. Link to MBTA press release.
