Mumbai’s monorail: Breakthrough or blunder?

As Mumbai, India, moves forward with a monorail, some skeptics are raising questions about the project.  An initiative of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the $545 million project is  expected to reduce traffic congestion. In The City Fix, Megan McConville quotes World Streets editor Eric Britton on monorails. Britton argues, among other things, that monorails are not cost-effective, do not provide convenient intermodal connections, and contribute to the degradation of street life.
