As Mumbai, India, moves forward with a monorail, some skeptics are raising questions about the project. An initiative of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the $545 million project is expected to reduce traffic congestion. Britton argues, among other things, that monorails are not cost-effective, do not provide convenient intermodal connections, and contribute to the degradation of street life.
