Mumbai, India, is moving forward with a monorail system. The first phase is expected to be in place by the end of the year, with the second phase to follow a year later. “About three to three-and-a-half-lakh commuters, mainly the city’s working class, will benefit from this air-conditioned transport system,” said Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, speaking at the system’s trial run. In Delhi, three monorail lines were supposed to be in place in time for this year’s Commonwealth Games, but they are still in the planning stages. Link to full story in The Economic Times.
