Melbourne rolls out smart cards

Lynne Kosky, Victoria’s Minister for Public Transport (Australia), announced the launch of Melbourne’s smart-card system. The roll-out, which is years overdue, will be initially limited to trains until technical glitches can be worked out with buses and trams. The Herald Sun was highly critical of the launch: “The system is already three years late. Why not wait until it is fully fit for service before foisting it upon long-suffering commuters?” Link to full story in Herald Sun.
