Heathrow’s PRTs: Will they work elsewhere?

by Susan on December 29, 2009

In The Transport Politic, Yonah Freemark writes about the planned personal rapid-transit system at London’s Heathrow Airport (UK). He writes:

Unlike the cities in which PRT lines are usually proposed, this airport environment provides a sealed-off, protected setting in which to experiment with this model for a new form of transportation.

While PRT systems may be suited to airports, Freemark concludes that PRT cannot serve densely populated cities because its capacity is lower than urban rail systems.  Link to full story in The Transport Politic.
