Who’s tracking your ORCA card?

by Susan on December 21, 2009

While the ORCA smart card offers convenience to passengers in the Seattle (WA) area, The Seattle Times asks questions about the privacy of personal data. When a customer purchases an employer-subsidized farecard, the employer can review the individual’s travel records:

A boss could check to see, for example, whether someone is abusing a subsidy by reselling ORCA cards or find out if an employee called in sick but rode the bus to the mall or the beach.

The story also raises questions about the privacy when customers register their ORCA cards online. Link to full story in The Seattle Times.
