Congress wants to expand cell phone coverage in subways

Several members of Congress want transit agencies to wire their subway tunnels for cell phone access.  Following the example of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, which was required to expand cell phone coverage in its stations,  some representatives want other subway systems to get wired as well. Industry lobbyists  like the National Emergency Number Association cite the public safety benefits.  “During an emergency, wireless users are often the first ‘eyes and ears’ at the incident, providing critical information for first responders,” NENA CEO Brian Fontes wrote in a letter to Congress.  Link to full story in The Hill.
