Pittsburgh seeks a smarter fare system

The Port Authority of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh (PA) wants its smart cards to do more. The agency is seeking $10.9 million in federal stimulus funds to expand its fare-collection system to specified parking garages and bicycle sharing rentals. “When we looked at smart cards, we asked, ‘How do we leverage this investment in transportation to make a smarter network in Pittsburgh?’ ” said  CEO Steve Bland.   Link to full story in Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
