UK bus company introduces mobile ticketing

UK operator Arriva has introduced mobile ticketing on its fleet of regional buses. Passengers will be able to use their cell phones to purchase tickets and then display them to the driver. “This approach has great advantages over some other mobile ticketing systems as we can roll it out across our networks without any downtime for vehicles or costly on-board technology,” said Arriva UK Bus managing director Mike Cooper. The m-ticketing technology can be operated on any GPRS-enabled phone; starting next year the application will be compatible with BlackBerry devices and iPhones. Link to press release from Arriva.
